ORIGINAL EARLY 19th c. HAND FORGED "STICKING TOMMY"

Here is an early 19th century hand forged piece of lighting, more commonly known as a "Tommy Stick" or "Sticking Tommy".

Some say that this type of device would have been used by a miner to light the way, however it was also known to have been forged in this manner to stick into the chinking of a log cabin or stone structure. The hook could have been created to hang this artifact on the back of a chair or cupboard door. Of course, it was an early lighting device that would obviously accomodate a candle...likely tallow.

It is 12" long and in original excellent condition with no specific issues. Many are quite a bit shorter.

Originally found in Berks County Pennsylvania and dating to the early to mid 1800's. ($125)
