Here is an early hanging Pennsylvania salt box with a lift lid and divided spice drawer. The brass knob appears to be original.
This early box displays early dovetailed construction, as does the divided spice drawer. We believe the wood type to be pumpkin pine.
It is 10 1/2 inches wide x 8 3/4 inches deep. It's nicely formed back measures 14 1/2 inches tall, while the slant front measures 9 1/2 inches tall. A large and showy piece of early Americana!
I only want to add that in my opinion, this piece is an impressive early hanging box. An example of which you rarely find.
Ca. Early 1800's. Originally out of a Pennsylvania estate of fine country antiques,collected over a period of many decades, all dating to the early 1800's, perhaps earlier. ($395)
